FG Launches Online Registration for Medical Laboratories in Nigeria
The Nigerian government has taken a significant step towards enhancing service delivery in the country’s medical laboratories. The Federal Government has begun an online registration process for medical laboratories in Nigeria, aimed at improving efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency. Dr. Tosan Erhabor, the Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, announced the move at a meeting with stakeholders and agency consultants.
The new framework will enable proprietors to register their laboratories seamlessly and from their preferred locations, without the need to visit the council’s headquarters in Abuja. The digitalization of the medical laboratory registration process will also aid data collation and management.
The council has been able to transform several manual processes into the digital environment, including Licensure, Examination, Indexing, Accreditation Service, and External Quality Assurance. The council’s successful transformation of these processes has raised its profile among stakeholders, despite the prevailing economic challenges.
Medical laboratory proprietors have been urged to continue working with the council to enhance service delivery. The council was also warned not to relent or rest on its oars in the discharge of its statutory duties. With this online registration process, the government hopes to weed out unregistered medical laboratories and improve service delivery in the country’s medical sector.
