St. Matthew’s Women Training Centre is a citadel of academic and vocational excellence where women and adolescents of female gender acquire vocational skills that will be useful to them and the societies at large. It is approved and being supervised by Federal Ministry of Education.
Location and History: St. Matthew’s Women Training Centre is located at Amukoko Community in the Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. The Centre was opened in October 1998 by Reverend Father Joe Long, its founder and co-coordinator. The school was moved to its present site in 2000 by Reverend Father P.J. Sexton, who re-positioned and re-engineered the school.
The school is now under the supervision of Rev Fr. Emmanuel S. Likoko
The Philosophy behind the School Vision: St. Mathew’s Women Centre was established with a full commitment to women empowerment by providing them with all round education that will serve as liberation and integral human development in the society. The Centre aims at adding value and improve students’ skills with sustainable programmes in education and morals empowerment that boosts human development.
Type and curriculum: St. Mathew’s Women Centre is a vocational training centre that offers programmes on Catering, Garment Making, Crafts and General Home Management to women. It is open to all women irrespective of religion, race or tribe. The Centre is approved for National Business and Technology Examination (NBTE). The institution also prepares students for tertiary institution admission, with some of its ex-students now graduates.
Staff: The Centre places premium on employment of top class teaching and non-teaching staff whose professional experience put them in good stead to deliver the vision of the school as it concerns the physical, emotional, intellectual and holistic wellbeing of its students.
Awards And Achievements. The Centre’s students have consistently performed excellently well in Theory and Practical Examinations of the National Business and Technology Examination (NBTE). The school has won many awards as a Center of Excellence for Human Development.
Extra-Curriculum/Club Activities: The school was inaugurated into the Nigerian Girls Guides on 15th November 2014. Also as part of the students’ training, excursions and travel education are prominent parts of the school curriculum with students given the opportunities to improve their training with visits to industries within and outside Nigeria.
