The Management of Edo State Polytechnics, Usen, has introduced a Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in a bid to deepen the exchange between academic and society.
Prof. Abiodun Falodun, the Rector, Edo Poly, explained that the centre located in Benin City, the state capital, is aimed at bringing the expertise of the school and its offerings for use to the larger society.
“We have developed a number of solutions and are innovating ways of solving society’s problems; especially the immediate community and we want to bring these ideas and tools closer to the people. This is why the centre is located in Benin City”, he said
Falodun stated that the centre would be engaged in capacity building and technology transfer programmes with experts pooled from highly experienced researchers and technologists from the polytechnic to solve problems in areas such as communication and media, pharmaceutical technology, surveying and geo-informatics, public administration and accounting, renewable energy, urban planning and environmental sustainability, among others.
“We have well-trained professionals who are willing to train people on some of these thematic areas and are hopeful that the synergy will provide solutions to issues facing the communities that we intend to service”, Falodun stressed..
