The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has announced the completion of investigations into the case of Mmesoma Ejikeme, a candidate accused of fraudulently inflating her 2023 UTME score. Prof. Oloyede revealed that Ejikeme was not the only candidate caught in the act, but others have chosen to remain silent.
Speaking from Windhoek, Namibia, Prof. Oloyede emphasized that there is an industry involved in faking results, although they are unable to penetrate the foolproof JAMB system. He expressed concern that parents and some candidates are being fooled without realizing it.
The Registrar stated that there is internal evidence showing that Ejikeme collaborated in the alteration of her scores, as certain features related to her were only known to her unless she shared them with someone else. He made it clear that her scores could not have been increased on her behalf.
Prof. Oloyede further revealed that he had discussed the matter with former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, describing it as a high-level scam. He highlighted the improvements made to JAMB’s facilities, making it difficult for individuals like Ejikeme and her collaborators to deceive the system. The Registrar emphasized that such fraudulent activities were dealt with in the past, and similar measures would be taken now.
The conclusion of the investigation sheds light on the widespread nature of the scam involving result falsification, prompting JAMB to enhance its security measures and ensure the integrity of its examination system.
