The need for a multidisciplinary approach to confronting the ravaging effect of cancer so as to fastrack the solution for sustainable development was highlighted recently.
In a keynote address at the 26th inaugural lecture of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abiodun Adebayo, vehemently proposed that the institution will soon set up the College of Health Sciences to take cancer and other diseases head-on, through research and development.
” The economic burden of cancer in the society is worrisome. It amount to reduced quality of life and causes premature deaths……… Because of the prevalence of cancer, there is need to establish centers for cancer development and management. As an institution, Covenant remain committed to attaining that goal. As a result, the University is partnering with relevant stakeholders, government and non-governmental agencies as well as research institutes. This will enable the University establish department and units that will be able to carry out actionable plans”. He concluded.
