The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has sacked at least 20 teachers in Public Primary Schools for certificate forgery and abscondment from work across various local government area of Niger State.
The Local Government Areas affected are Gbako, Bida, Lapai, Agaie, Katcha, Lavun, Mashegu, Munya, Shiroro and Kontagora.
Idris Kolo, the SUBEB Public Relations Officer, confirming the sack in a press statement said the decision was taken to flush out unqualified teachers in the state.
“The decision was taken at the management meeting in furtherance to the board’s determination to ensuring that only those with requisite qualifications and zeal to work would be allowed into the teaching profession especially at the basic level of education in the state”, he stated.
Kolo, giving the breakdown stated that four persons were sacked from Gbako Local Government, three each from Bida and Lapai, two each from Agaie, Katcha and Lavun and one each from Mashegu, Munya and Shiroro while one teacher was dismissed in Kontagora for abandoning his work.
The Public Relations Officer in a statement revealed the board’s decision to sack the affected teachers. Besides, the statement cited the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Isah Adamu as saying;
” The board has resolved to flush out all unqualified teachers in public primary schools as part of measures to restore the quality of teaching and learning at the basic level of education.”
” This is the first phase of those whose certificates have been verified by the institutions they claimed to have attended”.
