The Senate of the Lagos State University (LASU) has elected Professor Oyedamola Oke as the acting Vice-Chancellor for the institution.
The election follows last week cancellation of the process for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the institution by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following many petitions arising from the selection process of the vice-chancellor by the Governing Council.
Oke, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the school, scored 61 votes to beat his contender, Wahah Ellias, the deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) who had 51 votes, to be elected in the Senate election which took place on Monday, which was presided by Professor Abiodun Adewuya who is currently the acting provost of the College of Health Sciences.
Adewuya was elected Protem Chair of the Senate on Monday and the two DVCs showed interest in the position.
Last Friday, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced in a statement that a fresh election process for the LASU’s VC job should commence immediately and terminate in 45 days.
“After a thorough evaluation and investigation of the various complaints, Mr Governor, in his capacity as the Visitor to the University ordered the cancellation of the process,” the statement read.
