About 1,549,463 candidates in 19,129 centres across the country are to sit for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to be conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) starting from August 4.
Mr Patrick Areghan, WAEC’s Head of Nigeria National Office (HNO), who disclosed this in Lagos, said the candidates are made up of 786,421 males and 763,402.
Areghan said the examinations, which ends on September 5, would run daily from Monday to Saturday, with some Covid-19 precautionary measures in place in all centres.
“Schools must provide wash-hand buckets with running water, soaps, hand sanitisers and thermometer hand-gun to check the temperature of all concerned,” he said.
“All examination functionaries, including the council’s staff on distribution, supervisors, invigilators, inspectors, candidates and school officials will be required to wear face masks, wash and sanitise their hands daily, and throughout the duration of the examination.”
Areghan assured that WAEC would adhere strictly to physical distancing in the examination halls by ensuring that candidates sit two metres apart.
