The Ifumsa Health Awareness Club, a branch of the Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Student Association, brought free medical treatment to the residents of Ikire community in Osun State. In addition to the medical services, an educational session with students from Goodness Comprehensive College highlighted important topics such as safe sexual engagement and skin health.
Expressing their gratitude for the enlightening session, the school management praised the efforts of the medical students. This annual community outreach program, known as the “village outreach,” aimed to provide essential medical services to the less privileged.
Both the Akire Palace and Ikire Mercy Clinic served as venues for the event, offering a wide range of free medical services. Attendees received treatments for conditions such as hernia, hydrocele, and lipoma through minor surgeries. The medical services also included cervical cancer screening, hepatitis B screening, HIV screening, malaria rapid diagnostic tests, urinalysis, blood pressure checks, BMI assessments, medications, and consultations.
A team of surgeons from the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex conducted a total of eleven surgeries, while approximately 100 individuals received medical attention during the outreach.
The Chairman of the club, Miss. Oloyede Kehinde, expressed satisfaction in furthering the club’s vision of “wholesome health for all” and emphasized the importance of raising health awareness in the local community. Miss Omodara Favour, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, and Sunday Osuntoye, the Vice-Chairman, stressed the significance of providing free medical services to the less privileged and expressed their delight in serving the community.
Reflecting on the successful outreach, Kehinde highlighted the importance of community-driven initiatives in ensuring access to essential healthcare services for all, particularly in underserved regions.
