In a tragic turn of events, the brutal killing of a 300-level student at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, has prompted the government to take swift action.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration expressed deep condemnation for the heinous act in a statement released by the Ministry of Information and Strategy. The government assured the university’s management and students that justice would prevail and the perpetrators would face the full force of the law.
To unravel the cause of the student’s untimely demise, the police have been directed to summon all involved parties, including the baale of Imaweje village, the community where the incident occurred.
The statement emphasized that no one should take the law into their own hands, and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all those responsible are held accountable. It appealed to the university students to maintain peace and abide by the law while awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
The Ogun state government declared that such a tragic incident would not be tolerated anywhere within its jurisdiction, vowing to prevent its recurrence.
In the aftermath of the murder, a group of enraged students reportedly engaged in violent protests, resulting in the burning of four houses in the community, including that of the baale.
The identity of the deceased, who was allegedly targeted for belonging to a cult group, is yet to be confirmed.
As the government launches a thorough investigation, the gravity of the situation prompted the temporary closure of the university to prevent any further escalation of the crisis.
