Underwriters in West Africa are pushing for improved ratings to match their global counterparts and establish themselves as global brands, according to the Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for the 2023 West African Insurance Association Education Conference, Bola Odukale. The conference, which takes place in May in Lagos and has the theme of “Repositioning the insurance industry in West Africa for global competitiveness,” will feature papers from rating agency A.M Best and other international experts. The event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the subregional body. Odukale emphasized that the insurance industry in the region needs to be seen as a front-runner in promoting global competitiveness to promote the concept of a global village.
