The Executive Secretary of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, has expressed her displeasure about the increasing rate of child abuse in homes. Speaking at the Parents Association Conference on Safeguarding and Child Protection, Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized the need to protect children and safeguard their rights.
She stated that the conference aimed to educate parents on reporting cases of violence and abuse against children and how to prevent such issues. Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi further stressed the importance of discipline rather than punishment in correcting children’s wrongdoings.
Kamardeen Akodu, the Director of Monitoring and Investigation at the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), highlighted the government’s efforts to safeguard children. He encouraged parents to take responsibility for their children’s safety and emphasized that parental neglect and abuse by relatives or family friends were common reasons for child abuse.
