The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) issued a warning on Sunday of a possible increase in temperatures in certain cities, which could result in thermal discomfort. According to the agency’s spokesperson, Muntari Ibrahim, temperatures in some affected cities may rise above 40 degrees Celsius within the next 48 hours. States that may be affected include Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, and Adamawa, where temperatures could exceed 40 degrees Celsius. Most northern states, as well as parts of Oyo, Kwara, FCT, Nasarawa, and Benue, are expected to record temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, and Yola are at a high risk of experiencing severe thermal discomfort. NiMet has advised people in these locations to stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids during this period, and the agency will continue to provide updates to Nigerians.
