The need to embrace innovation and technology at all levels of education in Nigeria as been emphasized.
Speaking at the Nigeria Education Conference and Awards ( NECA) 2021, convened by The Educational Tide Media, Prof Adebayo, who is also the Vice Chancellor, Covenant University, Canaan land, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, revealed that the present state of education in Nigeria and indeed in sub- saharan Africa is appalling.
He lamented that Nigeria lag behind the developed world in terms of education and innovation. The Don who spoke virtually at the conference said that education must be geared towards problem solving .
” Nigeria must embrace innovation and technology if it must keep abreast with the rest of the developed world. Education must be seen as a problem solving tool and not education for its own end. It must solve problems for it to be impactful. Good product comes from synergy, therefore, those who train others, must be trained. Capacity building cut across board. There is need for continuous training.
Prof Adebayo, who cited his institution ( Covenant University) as a citadel of learning, innovation and a place for consummate application of technology towards producing employers of labour, rather than job seekers , said;
” You don’t wait till exam time before assessing your students. Assessment is done on a regular basis in tune with global dynamics. The curriculum of Covenant University are reviewed every year in order to meet up with contemporary demands .The theme of this year’s conference is Rethinking Education in Nigeria : Innovating in the future .
