The Nigeria Police Force on Friday, May 7, 2021 arrested two suspects over their alleged involvement in impersonation during the 2021 UTME registration.
Mr. Sesan Obasa , a 50-year-old man and Salvation Terhembe his partner in crime, were arrested and paraded before newsmen by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, for alleged impersonation.
Obasa and Terhembe were arrested by the police over impersonation during the 2021 UTME registration.
Terhembe was caught at one of JAMB’s registration centres in Bwari by a staff of the board as he attempted to register Obasa for the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
He had almost scaled the first accreditation process when the picture on the National Identification Number ( NIN), showed he was impersonating Obasa.
On interrogation Terhembe admitted carrying out the unlawful act, being contacted by Obasa to supply his information for registration at the JAMB centre because he was busy with work, besides, he claimed that he was only assisting and was not aware that his actions breached any rule of JAMB.
Obasa, in defence of his actions, said that he was misled by his determination and desperation to go to school which moved him to put in for JAMB this year, having applied to study Public Administration.
He admitted to have engaged Terhembe to carry out unlawful act of impersonation for UTME registration and pleaded for leniency as he was completely unaware that his actions were tantamount to identify fraud.
Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, who lauded the efficacy of NIN in checkmating Identity fraud, said if not for the use of NIN, the impersonator would have successfully, carried out his registration.
