The Kano State Government on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 announced the immediate closure of Government Technical College (BTC), Bagauda, for the threat of insecurity hovering around the region.
Recall that at least thirty students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna were kidnapped on March 11, 2021 during an attack by armed gunmen.
On April 20, 2021, at least twenty-three students of Greenfield University in Kasarami village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State were kidnapped and some of them are reportedly dead.
In the face of this and many other cases of disturbing insecurity reports especially targeted against schools, and the need to protect the lives of students and staff of the school, the Kano State Government has directed for the immediate closure of the Government Technical College, Bagauda.
Hon. Muhammad Sunusi Saidu, the Commissioner of Education, Kano State made this known in a statement.
“Following disturbing security reports, we hereby announce the immediate closure of Bagauda Technical College to protect the lives of students and staff of the college.
“We call on parents and guardians to immediately evacuate their children from the school while they await further instructions.
“I wish to express appreciation to the state government. Parents and guardians for their unflinching support and cooperation on government’s policies and directives, especially on security-related matters”, the Commissioner stated.
