Charles Ogwo

Andrew Ijever Wueseter the overall best graduating student of University of Calabar in 2021, came, saw and conquered the academic pursuit that took him from middle-belt region of Benue State to the coast land of Cross River State.

Wueseter an indigene of Ushongu Local Government Area in Benue State, and a student of Radiography in the Faculty of Allied Medical Science emerged the overall best graduating student with a 4.8 CGPA at the University of Calabar 34th convocation ceremony held on Saturday, March 27, 2021.

Not only did Ijever Wueseter beat his contemporaries in the race to becoming the best graduating student for the year 2021 and for the 34th convocation history of the institution, he also broke the records set by his predecessors.

In 2020 it was Ayodele Anjorin Ebenezer, a student of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences, who hails from Oye, Osin Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State – Nigeria, that was crowned the overall best graduating student with a cumulative grade points average (CGPA) of 4.77 out of the possible/maximum 5.0.

2019 saw Henry Emmanuel from the Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Biological sciences emerged as the overall best graduating student at the 32nd convocation of the University of Calabar with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.72.

Governor Samuel Ortom, the Executive Governor of Benue State was all smiles as he received the good news of the Wueseter’s intimidating record in far away Calabar, Cross River State.

Ortom, through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase sent a congratulatory message to Wueseter  on Sunday, March 28, stating that  the accolade is a good omen and the entire country.

“Ijever made the government and people of Benue State proud with his academic excellence which will serve as a source of inspiration to students from the state and other parts of the country”, the Governor said.

Ortom counseled Wueseter to consider his victory as a sign of greater things to come in his career and life.

Governor Ortom encouraged other Benue indigenes studying at home and in the diaspora to emulate Andrew Ijever with commitment and hard work, to be able to realize their dreams.

“We send a lot of Benue brothers and sisters to universities within, outside the state and some even outside the country. Some come back home with certificate while many others come back with high level of drugs addiction, cultism, prostitution, all forms of cyber crimes and e.t.c as dropouts”, he noted.

The Governor went on to state that since the state  has  been celebrating a lot of  its sons and daughters who are making Benue State  proud such as  Francisca Ordega, Kiddwaya, Tuface Idibia and the rest, and that he believes celebrating academicians like Wueseter will help encourage the younger ones to work hard.

“ This Benue son who has made us proud and he is been celebrated all over is worth some form of encouragement from our dear state. Let’s encourage him”, he said.
