Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu , the Executive Governor of Lagos State, has branded the ongoing EKOEXCEL programme in the state a game changer in Primary Education.
Sanwo-Olu made this known on Monday, March 22, while speaking to Professor Julius Ihovnbere, the Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education and Services, and other members of the committee, Folashade Adefisayo , the Commissioner for Education, Lagos State, Wahab Olawale Alawiye-King, Chairman, Lagos State Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) and other stakeholders at a meeting in his office .
“In the last couple of years, we have built strong foundations and this fiscal year, we increased our budget on education from eight to twelve per cent. We invested in curriculum development through EKOEXCEL to change the learning outcomes from our schools.
We believe a solid foundation for our children starts with qualitative primary education hence our deliberate focus on primary school education and reform. Our administration will continue to increase investment to bring up the standard of education across board”, the Governor said.
Honourable Adedoyin Adesina, the NUT Chairman, Lagos State, applauded the Lagos State government for recently investing in the welfare and educational development of the children. Adesina stated that the EKOEXCEL programme has been widely accepted by education stakeholders and shareholders across the state.
The NUT Chairman commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unrelenting efforts in improving the education standards in the state, noting that the present administration has surpassed all previous investments in Education.
“Since we have been having budgetary allocations to education since I started teaching in Lagos, I noticed that Sanwo-Olu has surpassed all”, he stated.
EKOEXCEL is a Lagos State government funded education reform programme that is successfully developing more highly skilled teachers with thousands of teachers re-trained state-wide in future ready pedagogy which is dramatically accelerating learning with 2 times more learning math and 3 times more in literacy.
