Dr . Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has said that girls education is very vital to National Development of any country.
Bobboyi stated this at the commissioning ceremony of a community centre for girls in Gafia village, Kastina State, where he said without education of the girl child the society can not be changed.
The girl center is equipped with 40 sets of furniture for students, 10 computers, 4 furniture for instructors, 1 furniture for coordinator of the centre, solar power panels with batteries inverter amongst others.
He encouraged parents in the state to allow their girl children finish their secondary school education before giving them out for marriage.
Bobboyi, went further to explain his view on girl child marriage, said that he was not against marriage but asked that parents and spouses allow them continue the search for knowledge even after marriage.
The UBEC Executive Secretary said the commission was glad with the Kastina State government for its numerous policies of promoting basic education.
Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, the Deputy Governor, Kastina State, in his remark identified illiteracy and unemployment as a major threat to the society.
Alhaji Yakubu said Kastina State government was prepared to work with UBEC to increase the number of such centres, so that the girl child in Kastina will have access to proper education.
“I also commended UBE and Senator Saddique Yar Adua for his role initiating the project in the state”, he said.
