The names of three professors were believed to have been submitted by the Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu , the Visitor of the institution for a consideration as the 9th substantive vice-chancellor of the institution.
This followed the successful conclusion of the interview conducted for five candidates by a seven-member joint council and senate selection committee.
The interview, which held on December 21, was attended by Professor Sena Bakre, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, LASU and professor of Food and Industrial Microbiology; Sena Bakre, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, a Professor of Physiology and the Director of Directorate of Advancement of the Vice-Chancellor’s office,LASU; Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, a professor of Public Health and the Director of LASU’s Research and Innovation Unit; Kabir Akinyemi, a former chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LASU branch and former Dean of Students’ Affairs of the institutio; and Professor Omotayo Awofolu from the Namibia University of Science and Technology.
Four other applicants for post: Professor Sherifdeen Tella, a former Vice-Chancellor of Crescent University, Abeokuta; Professor Olumuyiwa Noah, LASU’s immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics); Professor Aderemi Oki from Prairie View A&M University, Texas, United States of America, and Professor Hakeem Tijani from National Open University, had earlier been screened out for their alleged failure to meet the requirements set for the applicants.
Members of the Selection Committee include Professors Barakat Animashaun, Olatunde Owolabi and Babatunde Yusuff, to represent the university’s senate.
The institution’s Governing Council was represented on the Selection Committee by Karl Toriola, the incoming Managing Director of MTN Nigeria; Anu Eso, Managing Partner of AEC Legal, a law firm,and Adebayo Ninalowo, the council’s Chairman, who acted as the chairman of the Selection Committee.
